I’m a firm believer in taking care of your body, treating it right, and it will treat you well back. That said, one of the things that I make it a point to do a couple of times a week is yoga. For those of you that are close-minded, please consider doing it and at the very least, do yourself a favor and read this article. It just might change your perspective on things, especially if you’re trying to gain a few inches.
Yoga is a very popular exercise routine that is great for bringing and keeping your body in good physical shape. Practicing yoga is also a great way to relax the body as one of the essential things in yoga is the steady breathing that frees the body and mind, allowing them to relieve stress.
Another thing yoga is great for is stretching the body. By doing correct stretches, the body starts to decompress and release the tension accumulated throughout the day. When stretching the body, the muscles and cartilage also stretch and as a result, people have the tendency to grow taller.
By doing routine stretching, the body resists the pull of gravity, effectively looking taller and not submitting to compression. Not to mention, the proper stretching of your body that yoga provides, in my humble opinion, does help with posture, and you will start to look and feel taller almost immediately.
One must not forget the first rule of growing taller: Do NOT Slouch
The slouching occurs without us even realizing that we’re doing it. Unfortunately, it comes naturally, and sometimes we get so used to being in a slouched position, that we find it very difficult to stand up straight.
Why do you think so many old people and middle-aged people walk around looking like they’re about to tie their shoes?
By refraining from slouching and sitting/standing in the correct upright, not slouched, the spine is straight, with your head looking forward, you instantly have a better outlook on the world. Trust me, you will be able to walk with confidence and stand tall if you quit slouching. Oh, you will look taller while doing this as well. So, next time you catch yourself sitting or standing in a slouched position, fix things immediately! Remember to straighten your back, square up your shoulders and you’ll feel an immediate change in your height and level of confidence.
Now, for the most important question…
Can Doing Yoga Make You Look And Feel Taller?
Yes, it most certainly can. If you have reached any conclusion from the text above it should be that posture and adequate stretching of the body are very important for growing taller. Here are two yoga exercises that help you stretch your body to achieve better posture (and ultimately look taller).
This is the exercise that focuses on breathing to center and ground the body. The breathing helps increase the awareness of your body, as you only need to concentrate on the breathing and not think about anything else.
First, sit on the ground, cross your legs in front of you and put your hands on the knees. Focus your mind only on the breathing, keeping it steady and even, and keep your spine straight. Push to the floor with your behind and push the knees towards the floor also. Breathing in, lift your hands above the head, and while breathing out slowly lower the hands back to the knees.
This is another exercise that improves your posture and balance, alleviating any stress and tension in the spine.
Stand up straight with your feet far apart, but parallel to each other. Slowly turn the left foot at a right angle away from you, and then turn the right foot at a 45-degree angle inwards to you. Breathing in, lift your arms parallel to the floor, and breathing out make sure that the left knee is in line with the left foot. By breathing deeply in, stretch the body to the left foot and lean to the left.
By following this movement, the right hand should point at the sky, and the left hand at the calf muscle on your left leg. Turn your head to look towards the right hand, upwards. While breathing in, slowly straighten the back and return to the starting pose, breathing out, bring your hands down. Start again with the same moves on the other side of the body, stretching the cartilage and muscles in your back and legs.
