How tall is Tom Cruise? That’s the question people constantly ask me (almost daily to be quite honest). He’s loved by millions, just as much if not more than Marky Mark Wahlberg and good news for you, I’ve got the answer!
Tom Cruise: Height, Career, Family Life & More
At just 5’7″, Tom Cruise tends to be surprisingly small despite his large presence in on-screen roles such as Mission Impossible‘s Ethan Hunt or Jack Reacher from the film of the same name. He’s clearly never let his height become an issue, constantly dating and marrying women several inches taller than him. In fact, when asked what she’d be most looking forward to after their divorce in 2012, actress Nicole Kidman replied: “I can finally wear heels again!”
It’s often surprising for fans when they find out the various motivations that drove their favorite celebrities to success, and Tom Cruise is no different. Surprisingly, Tom wasn’t all that interested in acting until a high school wrestling injury left him sidelined for the season. Stuck in traction, it was his boredom that pushed him into trying out for that year’s rendition of Guys and Dolls and first ignited his interest in the profession.
Tom’s looks are so renowned that he was even used as the physical model for the main character in the animated film Aladdin! He’s always been especially sensitive about where his likenesses are used, which is why he has patently refused to let any of his characters be licensed for any toy or video game properties.
In a strange twist of fate, Tom Cruise filed for divorce when every one of his wives was 33 years old, although he claims that there’s no significance to this. His good looks also are credited with saving the sunglass company Ray-Ban.
The struggling organization made a last-ditch effort to raise sales by paying to have Cruise wear their shades in what ended up being three of his biggest hit films, Risky Business, Top Gun, and Rain Man. In fact, Tom’s popularity was so severe at this point that in 1986, Ray-Ban reported a roughly 40% increase in sales following the release of Top Gun.
Tom Cruise has had some genuinely notable roles offered to him, but the biggest surprises tend to be the roles he’s turned down. Tom was Marvel’s original pick to play Tony Stark in the now-blockbuster series of Iron Man films.
He also turned down the role of mathematician John Nash in the movie A Beautiful Mind, which was later played by Russell Crowe. At one point he was even set to play what would become one of Johnny Depp’s most signature rolls, Edward Scissorhands.
Speaking of roles, here’s a trailer for the Mission: Impossible – Fallout 2018 movie.
It’s no secret that Tom Cruise is a devout Scientologist, but what many individuals aren’t aware of is that he’s reached the highest level the church offers, what they refer to as “Operating Thetan VI.”
This has given Tom almost a messianic-like status among devotees of Scientology, with many claiming he even possesses minor healing abilities, able to alleviate things like joint pain and the common cold with a simple touch. Although Tom himself doesn’t substantiate these claims, he doesn’t make a noticeable effort to silence them either.
It’s not quite as shocking to witness the cult of personality that has sprung up around Mr. Cruise when one considers the level of physicality he’s reached for some of his movie roles. One of his more notable feats occurred on the set of 2015’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation where he held his breath for over 6 minutes during a single underwater sequence.
Another reason for Tom’s rabid following is that he always makes time for his fanbase whenever they come to his events, often spending two or three hours just saying hello to everyone who was, in his words: “…just nice enough to show up at all.”
The ultimate question here is whether or not Tom should worry about trying to increase his height? Truth be told, he probably doesn’t need to, but it wouldn’t hurt for him to boost his height up through proper food and vitamin intake.
