Kevin Hart is a celebrity who has made his small stature a component of his identity, always cracking jokes about his diminutive 5’4″ height. He’s been frequently quoted as saying that his size is a significant component of who he has become as a person, blaming the physical trait on his dedication to things like health and exercise. He’s just as physically fit as the famous actor Mark Walhberg if you ask me, spending a lot of time in the gym and eating super healthy. I’ve actually got a lot to share with you about Kevin Hart today. I’ve covered a lot of ground here, not just his physical traits. Keep reading for further details.
All About Kevin Hart
Kevin Hart claims he knew very early on that he was supposed to be a comedian for a living. He pinpoints an unlikely moment in his childhood as the moment he realized he had a gift. When Kevin was eleven, his mother was giving him a spanking for some sort of misbehavior. While it was happening, Kevin made a joke so sincerely funny that his mother couldn’t help but stop spanking him and break down laughing. From that point on, as Kevin said: “If I could stop a whupping … I’d know I was doing the right thing.”
The Early Years
Kevin Darnell Hart came into the world on July 6th, 1979, the second of two children. Growing up in a rough home, Kevin watched his father Henry Witherspoon struggle with substance abuse issues, frequently ending up in jail for small-time crimes. Because of this fact, Kevin Hart has always said that it was his mother, Nancy Hart, who aided him in staying on the right path, keeping him from falling into the same sort of pitfalls as his father had. As a child, Kevin was obsessed with African-American comedians like Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, and Dave Chapelle among others.
After graduating high school, Kevin briefly worked as a shoe salesman before attending community college while continuing to work on his comedic chops under the stage name “Lil Kev the Bastard.” Lil’ Kev never really found much success, and it was during this period that Kevin experienced getting pelted with chicken wings during a performance, a story that has since become one of his most famous standup skits.
In hindsight, Kevin blames the failure of this iteration of himself on a lack of identity. “I was trying to be everybody,” Kevin has been quoted as saying, “I was so confused. I didn’t know what to do.” He continued to struggle until he met who would become one of his single biggest mentors, veteran comedian Keith Robinson. Keith began working with the young comedian, helping him shape an image that was true to Kevin’s personality.
During the early 2000s, Kevin Hart began to achieve some critical acclaim for his comedy, which led to his first television role in the 2002 Judd Apatow series “Undeclared.” During that same year, Kevin would land his first major film role starring in “Paper Soldiers.”
This big screen debut led to a slew of acting opportunities for the newly minted comedy star, including 2003’s “Scary Movie 3”, 2007’s “Epic Movie” and 2010’s “Death At a Funeral.” Throughout the last few years, Kevin has continued to act while touring full-time as a professional comedian. In 2012, his full-length comedy record “Laugh At My Pain” was officially certified 5x platinum.
Kevin Hart also has created a successful music career for himself, recording under the alias Chocolate Droppa. As Chocolate Droppa, Hart released a full-length soundtrack to his 2016 stand up special “What Now?” to several positive reviews in publications like Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. The record features several notable cameos including Migos, T.I., and Trey Songz.
Kevin also plays the role of father, taking care of his two children he had with his former wife, Torrei Hart. Daughter Heaven Leigh Hart is 13, while son Hendrix Hart is 11. Kevin and Torrei amicably split in February of 2010 citing irreconcilable differences.
