Coffee vs Growing Taller – The Debate
Right of the bat, I’ll be the first to tell you that coffee is NOT a limiting factor in the growth of your body, period. So, no need to be alarmed or switch to another beverage, as there is no scientific evidence that will support this notion.
Even if the moms keep telling their kids that java will prevent them from growing, still, there is no reason to believe that this is to be true.
Maybe this notion or thought came about at a point in time when coffee was expensive, or from an unsupported study where participants have shown signs of loss of bone and muscle mass, unfortunately, no one will know for certain.
Kids Should Not Drink Coffee, or Should They?
I guess that’s the huge debate and the question of the day. Seeing that many commonly accepted foods today have loads of sugar, caffeine and other more dangerous ingredients, it is somehow absurd to claim that coffee is dangerous for children.
Some cultures where this drink is ingrained deep in their traditions don’t have any issues in giving their kids a small amount of this beverage every day, even from a young age. But that does not necessarily mean that everyone should accept this and start putting a cup of Americano in the feeding bottle. I’m not saying that’s the approach here. What I am saying is that there’s no reason to think that a tiny amount of coffee on a daily basis will have you looking shorter than the shortest person in the world. That’s hogwash, point blank.
But What About The Caffeine?
Coffee, unless decaffeinated, has a certain amount of caffeine and it is the caffeine that is the problem linked to growth and bone issues. Nothing serious, as caffeine doesn’t directly impact growth, but sometimes more often than not, caffeine does influence our sleeping patterns.
This is one of the main reasons why people are constantly asking whether or not drinking soda and tea will stunt your growth. Many people are confused, thinking it’s the type of beverage that plays as a factor. However, that’s not the case at all. In fact, it’s due to soda pop and tea (green tea, black tea, and english tea) all containing caffeine, which typically leads to restless sleeping if consumed in large amounts.
Why Should You Be Concerned?
Well, it’s during deep sleep that our hormones work and begin to release important human growth hormone (HGH). The release of HGH is a huge factor in growing as a child.
In fact, HGH is very important for the growth of the body overall, especially during the younger years of our lives. Later in life, HGH is mainly responsible for the repair of the cells and regeneration of the body. That’s why older men and women supplement with HGH when they reach a certain age because it helps regenerate their cells.
When the production of the HGH gets interrupted, it results in stunted growth and can even lead to bone density issues. Thus, children should not be given any coffee or other beverages and foods that contain caffeine, as it is caffeine that is the main culprit. However, I want to be clear here in stating that it’s NOT THE DRINK.
Coffee Consumption While Pregnant
During pregnancy, a pregnant woman should refrain from drinking this as it has indeed been linked to low birth weight, so it’s best to not make a problem that can be avoided. Just stay away from coffee and caffeinated products while pregnant.
If you’re having trouble reaching the height which you desire to reach, then you’ve got to take some real action. The best thing you can do is eat healthy, exercise, and supplement accordingly. I’d start here if I were you.
