Whatever the case may be, Donald is sticking to his story.
As A Young Child
As one of five kids born to real estate mogul Fred Trump and his partner Mary MacLeod, Donald has spent most of his existence surrounded by controversy in one form or another, due in no tiny part to his father’s often shady business dealings. When Donald was only 8, Fred Trump was already being investigated by the Senate Banking Committee for defrauding his loan providers by lying about the costs associated with his real estate development projects. Due in no small part to this, Fred lost his ability to get loans from either the state or federal government!
When Donald was 13, he began attending the New York Military Academy. Found roughly 60 miles outside of New York City, the academy has been in constant operation since the late 1800s and requires students to adhere to a rigorous set of standards, including discipline and cleanliness.
Originally sent to the school for his bad behavior, Donald Trump has in later years bragged about his background at the New York Military Academy, specifically pointing out that during his senior year he was made a captain. While reports on his tenure and success as a school captain vary, it’s clear that he was making strides towards positions of power early in his life.
After finishing high school, Donald began working towards a degree in economics from Fordham University in New York City. Following just two years of study there, he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Finance and Commerce where he finished out his degree.
During this period Donald Trump was receiving deferments from the draft for Vietnam. Once leaving school, he obtained a permanent medical deferment for bone spurs. It was this series of circumstances that almost certainly secured Donald’s future in real estate and business, as he shortly began working for his Father after his graduation in 1968.
Trump turned this initial management position under his father into a batch of housing developments all over the nation. With a roughly 1 million dollar loan from Fred Trump, Donald began buying up tracts of land that would eventually help him build his extensive financial empire.
No Alcohol Consumption
Donald Trump has always stated that he adheres to strict sobriety, due primarily to his brother Frederick Trump Jr.’s addiction. Fred Jr.’s struggles with alcoholism eventually took his life in 1981, at just 43 years old.
It was during this same period in the 1980s that Trump began investing a lot of his money into Atlantic City, opening several casinos while almost single-handedly reinvigorating the city’s tourism industry. This is where he made the bulk of his fortune, while also simultaneously suffering from multiple bankruptcies.
The 1990s were less kind to Donald Trump, as the recession that hit the nation caused several of his business ventures to suffer or close their doors completely. By the end of this Trump was estimated to have been in debt by as much as 900 million dollars.
The Apprentice TV Show
Luckily, the early-2000s saw a strengthened economy, and with that fuel added to the fire, Trump not only rebounded financially but took the leap into entertainment. As a public figure on The Apprentice, Donald Trump cemented himself as a household name to an entirely new generation of people. This almost certainly is responsible for his political successes that were to come, as The Apprentice enjoyed a record-breaking viewership through the later 2000s and early 2010s.
